In the base Silksong game, the Beast Crest tends to lag behind the other Crests in terms of options and healing. It has fewer tool slots, doesn’t get blue slots naturally, and its healing mechanics are somewhat restrictive. The Better Beast Crest mod aims to remedy that, giving the Beast Crest a more satisfying progression path and extra flexibility, without turning it into an overpowered cheat (unless you really want to).
With this mod, your Beast Crest evolves as you unlock ranks of the default Hunter Crest. As you progress, it gains new tool slots, better healing dynamics, and configurable tweaks so you can tailor things to your preferred balance. It also integrates nicely with features like Multibinder, and even lets you swap in alternate Down-Air / Pogo mechanics from other Crests if you like
Highlights & Key Details
Here are the core specs you’ll want to know:
- Author: Delfofthebla
- File size: 20 KB
- Version: 2.2.0
- Last update: 8 October 2025
- Required files / software:
• You need BepInEx (or BepInEx + Configuration Manager) installed in your Silksong game folder.
• Then place BetterBeastCrest.dll inside the BepInEx/plugins directory.
• A config file (BetterBeastCrest.cfg) will show up in the BepInEx config folder after launching the game once.
• If you want a UI to tweak settings in-game, the Configuration Manager mod is handy but not strictly required.
What changes at each rank
Here’s how the Beast Crest evolves under this mod’s design:
- Rank 1
You get a slight quality-of-life boost, you’ll restore 1 mask immediately when binding, plus you can lifesteal via Rage up to 2 masks. The total potential healing is still similar, but the feel is smoother. - Rank 2
You unlock your first blue tool slot (top left of the crest). Also, your Rage duration is increased by 20%. - Rank 3
Builds on Rank 2. You gain a yellow tool slot (top right) and your maximum lifesteal healing in Rage increases by 1 mask, meaning the Beast Crest can actually out-heal some options in certain scenarios. - Extra features
- You can swap the Down-Air / Pogo behavior of the Beast Crest to that used by other Crests (if that’s your style).
- Each rank’s Rage mode damage multiplier and attack speed multiplier are configurable.
- You can even shift or disable the tool slot assignments, reduce or increase healing, adjust Rage duration, etc. The mod is built to be very configurable so you’re not locked into any rigid setup.
- You can swap the Down-Air / Pogo behavior of the Beast Crest to that used by other Crests (if that’s your style).
How upgrades & progression work
You don’t need to do anything special inside the mod to “activate” it, upgrading the default Hunter Crest in your playthrough triggers corresponding upgrades to the Beast Crest automatically. This works for both new and existing saves, so you’re not forced to start over.
Also, features like Multibinder still interact properly: it extends your lifesteal cap by 1 mask, just like in the base game. Earlier versions of the mod had issues with this, but they’ve been fixed.
If you dislike any of the default values, you can adjust almost everything via the .cfg or the Configuration Manager (if you have it). Don’t want the immediate heal on bind? Turn it off. Think the Rage duration is excessive? Scale it back.
Installation & removal (super easy)
- Install
- Make sure BepInEx (with or without Configuration Manager) is installed properly in your Silksong folder.
- Drop BetterBeastCrest.dll into BepInEx/plugins.
- Launch the game once (the mod will generate its config file).
- Optionally adjust settings in the .cfg or via Configuration Manager.
- Make sure BepInEx (with or without Configuration Manager) is installed properly in your Silksong folder.
- Uninstall
Just delete BetterBeastCrest.dll from the plugins folder. Your save is safe. If you had a tool equipped in a blue slot, unequip it (so your game doesn’t try to use a non-existent slot). The mod doesn’t break your save even if you remove it, your character just reverts to “vanilla” behavior once you remove the mod file.

If you like the idea of making the Beast Crest more viable and fun without breaking the balance, Better Beast Crest is a great tweak. It doesn’t force you into superpowered territory (unless you want to push it), and the level of configurability means you can play it the way you like. For players who want a more fleshed-out Beast experience, this mod really delivers.
